iFISH is dedicated to serving humanity through service projects and programs designed to combat societal and global matters. The COVID-19 pandemic surfaced many educational needs and disproportionate inequities as schools transitioned to remote learning. In a report focused on Education in a Pandemic, the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, identified eleven observations that inequitably impacted American students during the pandemic. One area negatively impacted, affected the academic growth in mathematics causing students to fall further behind.
When the community needed us most as a result of the global pandemic, we provided support because iFISH is uniquely positioned to hear the voice of the community and respond to the most pressing matters quickly. We stepped right in and offered math tutoring during the summer. This comment from a parent highlights how our real-time ability to evolve and morph directly impacted the life of a student: “You’ve helped her understand content she’d previously struggled with and boosted her confidence to engage and succeed in 8th grade math. Best part of all, she also enjoyed her summer tutoring sessions.”
As we transition into 2022 after persevering during an extremely ambiguous time, we must allow time for self-reflection and extend grace and kindness to ourselves and others. What steps will you take to impact others and your community? Please consider making a donation to iFISH so that we can continue to iNSPIRE, iNFORM and iNVEST in our communities making them better locally, nationally and globally.
